About custom incentives

Construction plans

High-efficiency equipment that falls outside the scope of our standard prescriptive offers may still be eligible for incentives. Whether you're installing insulation, heating and cooling equipment or something else that will result in energy savings, incentives through our Custom Programs can help you offset up-front capital and reduce operating costs. Incentives are based on the forecasted natural gas energy savings, for qualified projects that have simple paybacks greater than 1.5 years and therefore need an incentive to compete for limited capital. Incentives are capped at 30% of project costs (including labor) or $25,000.

The applicant must be a CenterPoint Energy Ohio general service (rate 320, 321 or 325) natural gas account holder at the time of equipment installation. Equipment must be purchased and installed within the dates specified on the application, and the project should be completed within 90 days from the date your project is approved for incentives.

Making the upgrades

When your project is approved, we will send you a "Letter of Intent." Do not begin your energy efficiency project(s) or purchase equipment until you have received this written approval. The project should be completed within 90 days from acceptance.

Keep your paperwork!

After project completion, you will need to submit an itemized invoice and a final Custom project application, noting any changes to the project description. Ensure that you prepare and retain copies of all project documentation, including a project description and an itemized cost estimate and all calculations, assumptions and formulas used to determine savings. You will also need to submit an IRS W-9 form.
